Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee

Huckabee position on Taxes

• Huckabee supports the Bush tax cuts and wants to expand them.

• He would make higher education tuition tax deductible.

• He is a self-described fiscal conservative who favors a flat tax. Ultimately, Huckabee wants to abolish the income tax system in favor of a national sales tax.

• He has always been supportive of the Bush tax cuts and wants to expand them.

• Huckabee is in favor of 'Fair Tax' which will eliminate all federal taxes and a single national tax will take its place. He has described fair tax as the flatter, fairer, finite, family friendly overhaul.

• Huckabee proclaims that 'Fair tax' is revenue neutral and brings everybody into the economy. As a result 'Fair Tax' does not bring underground into the economy. Drug dealers, prostitutes and all such people will have to pat taxes.

• Huckabee is of the opinion that a national flat tax should be implemented to keep up with globalization.

• He supports the removal of poorest tax payers from the pay rolls.

• He strongly votes for no national sales tax or VAT.

• Huckabee feels that it should be entirely left to the state to determine the estate taxes.

• Huckabee proclaimed that he would not stand for any hike in taxes under any circumstances. According to responses to associated Press Questionnaire for AR Senate in 1992, he stated "I would not support any tax increase under any circumstances. There needs to be significant reductions in spending, not an increase in taxes."

• Huckabee is of the opinion that the government should untax innovation, untax income and he gives this matter utmost priority.
