The decades of diplomatic initiatives by the United States, also the principal ally of the Jewish state, for a peaceful resolution for the conflict has continued to be unsuccessful, although analysts have pointed out the grudging, although gradual acceptance among the Arab nations of Israel's right to exist, which stands in stark contrast to the earlier pledges of annihilating the Jewish nation.

As the Israelis continue to trumpet its ancestral and biblical rights for this land, the Palestinians are equally vociferous in their claim, backed by legal and historical precedents. As the Israelis continue their settlement programs in disputed areas, so has the Hamas responded with their acts of violence against the Jewish state. As the Israelis reacts with yet another round of excessive response to these attacks, so has the international community castigated them for their brutality. As the Israelis and Palestinian Authority entered into the negotiating table, so have the both of them unilaterally decide to leave for the umpteenth time.

Gingrich Position on Israel

• Gingrich thinks that the U.S. is setting up a confrontation with Israel.

• He thinks that Israel is in great danger and by not supporting Israelis, we’re setting them up for a nuclear holocaust.

• He thinks that Israel has every right to maintain a blockade of Gaza in defense against Hamas.

He believes there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza but merely a political effort to undermine the safety of Israel.

Current President of the United States

Barack Obama

Presidential Candidate Barack Obama

Obama Position on Israel

• Barack Obama states that the only way for Israel to achieve peace with their neighbors is to "begin with a clear and strong commitment to the security of Israel".

• Obama criticized those who denied the Holocaust, yet he supports talks with the Iranian President Ahmadinejad, who also denies the holocaust and eventually promises that a new one would come.

• Obama has praised past Israeli leaders for their kind gestures of peace towards Palestinians but refused to recognize their earlier attempts that led to violence and death of Israelis.

• Barack Obama mentions that he is in support of resumption of the aid to the Palestinian government with a condition that the government 'renounces terrorism'.

• Obama opines thus, "Nobody is suffering more than the Palestinian people." He has declared recently in his speech ?our enemies are not just terrorists, it's not just Hezbollah, it's not just Hamas, and it?s also cynicism."

• Obama contends that there is a need to preserve Israel as a Jewish state though it has its politicians and its security as well.

Declared 2012 Republican Presidential Candidate
Former Governor of Massachusetts

Mitt Romney

Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney

Romney Position on Israel

• In Mitt Romney's opinion amidst the many critical challenges that America faces today, the threat of violent and radical Jihad and the threat of nuclear proliferation stand at the top.

• Romney cites the former President Jimmy Carter's view with regard to bringing peace to the Holy Land and thinks the opposite. According to him, it is only helping to prevent terror and bloodshed and violence.

• Romney quotes. "State taxpayers should not be providing special treatment to an individual who supports violent jihad and the destruction of Israel."

• Romney fears that radical Islam has one goal; to replace all Islamic states in the world under one caliphate and convert the non-believers of Islam forcibly, if necessary, to Islam. He says that this plan is more irrational than the Nazi Germany policies of the 1930s and Stalin?s Cold War or the 1940s.

• Mitt Romney has committed that he would defeat the jihadists all around the world. Most of his speeches however focus on restricting Iran rather than making decisions to resolve the tension between Israel and Palestine.

• Romney requested the Arab states to stop providing weapons and financial support to Hezbollah and Hamas and instead to put pressure on the Palestinians to "drop terrorism and recognize Israel's right to exist."

• Mitt Romney strongly supports the security wall that divides Israel from the West Bank.
