Declined 2012 Republican Presidential Candidate
Former Governor of Alaska

Sarah Palin

Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin

Palin position on the Environment

• Palin supports offshore drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. "We're talking about a sliver of the coastal plain of Alaska being explored and drilled for oil. It's about a footprint of a 2,000-acre plot of land. That's smaller than the footprint of LAX." she also added that, "I get frustrated with folks from outside Alaska who come up and say, 'You shouldn't develop your resources.'" . She also said, "I beg to disagree with any candidate who would say we can't drill our way out of our problem or that more supply won't ultimately affect prices. Of course it will affect prices."

• Concerning global warming Palin says that, "A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute (global warming) to being man-made."

• Palin supports the idea of a natural gas pipeline from Alaska's North Slope. "When I look every day, the big oil company's building is right out there next to me, and it's quite a reminder that we should have mutually beneficial relationships with the oil industry."

• Sarah Palin opposes the idea of putting the polar bear in the endangered species list. She even went on to the extent of suing the Interior Department over its decision. Palin is also in favor of allowing mining in Bristol Bay, which, according to environmentalists, may disrupt the vulnerable species of animals such as bears, salmon and caribou.
